2019 Year in Review

-->
1. What did you do in 2019 that you'd never done before?
I won $38.21 in Vegas.  It’s not quite $40, but close enough, universe.

2. Did you keep your New Years resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
My New Year’s resolution is to meet 24 new people (two a month).  If you exclude camp, I met 21 new people this year.  If you include camp, I greatly exceeded this goal for the year.  My New Years resolution/mantra for 2020 is Just Dance.  I also have two goals, which are Find a Job and Expand My Local & Global Communities.  My theme for the new year is Enchanting, and my ways of being are Spacious, Aligned, Erotic, Cherished, and Badass.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Sarah, Kate, and Lauren birthed Jack, Julian, and Landon, respectively

4. Did anyone close to you die?
My grandmother

5. Did anyone close to you get married?
I don’t think so, but I’m sorry if I forgot your wedding.

6. What countries and/or states did you visit?
Rhode Island, Arizona*, California (x2), New York (X2), Nevada, New Hampshire (x2), Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Illinois (x2), Indiana, Ohio (with a slight dip into Kentucky), West Virginia+, Iowa+, Wisconsin+
*First time!
+New Geocaching souvenirs!

7. What would you like to have in 2020 that you lacked in 2019?
Let’s just call this what it is: a job

8. What date from 2019 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 1 was the day I saw Lady Gaga in Vegas.  It was quite possibly the greatest moment of catharsis and thus transformation in my life, to date.

9. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Forgiveness in the form of transmutation.

10. What was your biggest failure?
I didn’t really have any failures, but the other way of looking at that is to say that I didn’t fail because I didn’t take any risks, so perhaps my biggest failure was having no failures.

11. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not really.  I had some depression earlier in the year.

12. What was the best thing you bought?
We didn’t technically buy it, but our new house.

13. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Greta Thunberg

14. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The denomination of my childhood voted to kick out a church that is inclusive of the LGBTQ community.  They did this on the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots.

15. Where did most of your money go?
Towards living my best life

16. What did you get really, really excited about?
Being in the Rebel cabin at campo:p="">

17. What song will always remind you of 2019?
Camelot by Skating Polly

18. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? MUCH happier.  So much lighter.  I could barely breathe and had a constant stomachache for two and a half years (2017-mid 2019) because I was so anxious, and I finally learned to LET IT GO this year. Thanks Elsa.
 ii. thinner or fatter?
Slightly thinner
iii. richer or poorer?
Slightly financially poorer, but with extraordinarily richer life circumstances

19. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I did a lot of work on my health this year, but I think I could have done even more.  More cooking/eating *nourishing* food, more cardio, more yoga, more dancing.  These are strong goals for 2020.

20. What do you wish you'd done less of?
My dog is the center of my world.  That’s not really the way I want to live, no matter how cute and cuddly he is.

21. How did you spend Christmas?
At Paul and Laurel’s house in Elizabeth.

22. What did you dress up as for Halloween?
A skunk, because I am a badass forager who doesn’t give a fuck what you think.

23. What was your favorite TV program?
Either Big Mouth or Russian Doll

24. Who was the best person you met this year?
I probably know the answer to this question, but it’s in a state of limbo at the moment.

25. What was the best book you read?
The most important book I read was Radical Forgiveness by Colin Tipping.  The book that best captured a major undercurrent of my year was Shameless: A Sexual Reformation by Nadia Bolz-Weber. The most interesting book was Becoming by Michelle Obama. The most fun book was How to Change Your Mind by Michael Pollan, and the most beautiful book was The Crane Wife by Patrick Ness.
I finished (almost) 18 books this year, and started many more than that.  I am hoping to have a better reading habit in 2020.

26. What were your greatest musical discoveries?
Skating Polly and I are still deep in the throes of musical NRE, and Jamila Woods receives a high honorable mention.

27. What did you want and get?
A sense of serenity, connection, and purpose.  I also now own a Honda Fit, named Little Girl Blue, and everything about this situation has dramatically improved my life (besides the eco guilt).

28. What did you want and not get?
A meaningful career

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
MIDSOMMAR.
Second place goes to Professor Marston and the Wonder Women.
Tied third place goes to Climax and Le Bain from the French film festival at the MFA.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I went to Salem with Audra (Anders was at camp).  I was 38.

31.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I have been taking many steps to rebuild my life and restore it to its former glory, but it’s taking some time for the results to come through.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2018?
FRENCH AND PINK

33. What kept you sane?
I MADE SO MANY PLAYLISTS.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Lizzo and Skating Polly.  I always fancy Shakey Graves.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Climate change, the impeachment, detained migrants.
This year I emerged out of a frozen paralyzed place of inactive depression and began to strategize ways to dance through a revolution again.

36. What bands did you see in concert this year?
Muse, Amanda Palmer, Tacocat, LADY GAGA (Enigma & Jazz and Piano shows), Phosphorescent, Better Oblivion Community Center, Hozier, Childish Gambino, Ladytron, Shakey Graves, Sleater-Kinney
It was about quality, not quantity this year.

 37. What was your favorite moment of the year?
Performing Piece of my Heart, dressed as Amanda Palmer, on the rock star stage at camp.  It was my ultimate swamping experience.  I’m giving the award to that moment, but some other awesome moments included:
-Going to Providence with OOchie
-Going to Phoenix with Megan and learning from a whole slew of amazing women, especially Laverne Cox
-Living my dream day in Santa Monica, Malibu, and Venice Beach.
-Going to Ocean Beach (San Diego), by myself.  Finding Little Miss Fink Frog.
-Hiking through Muir Woods with my family.
-Going to a music festival in Golden Gate Park.
-Walking across the Golden Gate Bridge.
-Making peace with the fact that I don’t live in California (yet).
-Seeing Lady Gaga in Las Vegas, and ceremoniously taking back the whole city.
-Visiting Melinda in Cincinati.
-Seeing Moulin Rouge on Broadway, then going to a burlesque show in the Lower East Side.
-Visiting Chicago with my family.
-Moving to the ocean and walking with Enkidu on the beach every day.
-Learning to open myself up to Boston and its people again.

38. What was your least favorite moment of the year?
The week my grandmother died was a pretty rough one.

 39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2019.
I learned to practice Radical Compassion.  Sacred Restraint. The medicine is in the hunt (the foraging). I honor myself with my choices. I can transmute any energy. I’m not mad at you.  Replace anger with love.

40. Quote some song lyrics that sum up your year:
I’ve got my plastic Corvette. I’ve got my house and chore list.  I eat up our kids more than calories.  I know you love it when I talk all flowery.
I’m not going anywhere.  You can take window seat and you can keep all my drinks ‘cause I forfeit.
I want better than that classless act.
Love looks better in color.
